How to do 2022 like a Tiger šŸÆ

I feel like theĀ realĀ new year is about to begin....

Summer holidays are over and all of us are moving back into work and school routines. How has your January been? Iā€™ve spent a glorious 10 days in Hawaii with my hubby visiting our daughter, Peri who we haven't seen for 10 months.Ā  Balmy breezes, warm tropical waters and Maui sunsets. It was bliss. It was wonderful to see our girl and to immerse ourselves in island culture. Of course I packed my Aussie Bronze (all sizes) and it was great to have it on hand to give us the glow like the locals šŸ˜‰ Yep, a brazen plug for the product but true! (check my insta postĀ here

Ā

Ā

Time spent reconnecting with family is priceless, but the problem is Iā€™ve left writing this blog until the last minute. Again.

If you're like me and have been away for part of January you may need a second chance at starting your New Yearā€™s resolutions and getting motivation to do so. For motivational tips on how to get moving donā€™t forget last monthā€™s article which you can find here:Ā Love the skin youā€™re in ebook

And if you still need a little push to get started read on for some more great tips to overcoming procrastination.

Procrastination: the ability to feel exceedingly guilty about not doing any work, and yet continue to not do any.

Ā

As a woman, wife, mum and friend there have been many times in my life where I could draw examples from. Oh my goodness there are many I can draw on from just this week! My 2022 resolution to swim three times a week and meditate daily, to pick up and start reading one of my 5 books that I have been given over the past 18 months, or even to complete our 2020-21 tax return. Thatā€™s not to forget the shower needs a good scrub and the timber floors have needed mopping since Christmas day!Ā

What have you resolved to do better this year? I think that New Yearā€™s Resolutions should be made on the 31 January because letā€™s face it, February is the new January am I right?

It was only yesterday over a leisurely breakfast at our favourite local cafĆ© that I realised how stressed my hubby is that our tax return has not been done. Now donā€™t get me wrong we are equal in all things in our marriage but when it comes to finances I am the chief financial officer so the procrastination falls to me. You see, we know that our return will be substantial due to him paying a little extra tax each week, so he cannot understand why we always put it off. Every. Year. Truthfully neither do I.Ā Ā (I call it creative avoidance and sometimes find myself scrubbing tiles instead of doing what is need + important)Ā

Anxiety is a great lover of procrastination, that bitch loves putting the freeze on us both physically and mentally. *me scrolling tik tok instead of doingā€¦ well everything. Sometimes we put things off even though we know itā€™s good for us (#selfcare) For instance the past three nights I have stayed awake past midnight aimlessly on my phone.

Ā Bedtime ProcrastinationĀ - intentionally delaying bedtime when one has minimal control over their daytime life as an attempt to regain some sense of freedom and claim back precious personal time late at night despite knowing it is not good for them.

Yep, I was today years old when I learnt this. But if I can understand the reasons for my actions then I can address them so tonight I am creating a fresh bedtime ritual to try and regain better habits.

Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning.

Ā

Back to New Yearā€™s Resolutions - have you made any? How are you tracking? Are you tracking them? I truly believe in the old saying if you fail to plan you fail to succeed. For me that involves breaking larger/harder goals down into bite size chunks that are achievable. Drawing on my trusty 1990-2000ā€™s business coaching experience, introduce: SMART goals into your planning.Ā

SĀ Specific list, and make sure to cover all aspects of your life you want to focus on this year.Ā Donā€™t forget self care - itā€™s not all about the kids, happy wife happy life, & our Covid lessons - work isnā€™t everything

MĀ Measurable - Our dog needs more outdoor stimulation but do I make a goal of ā€œspend more time with dogā€? No. Spend more time with the dog converts to take dog to the beach.

AĀ Achievable - our favourite dog friendly beach is a half hour from home. Itā€™s fun for him and itā€™s relaxing being by the water for us. Yet we are halfway through summer and havenā€™t been once. We would be happy if we could get our paws wet at least 4 times before summer's end. Itā€™s not perfect, but achievable.

RĀ Relevant - individual goals should be part of an overall vision for your life. I normally start with headings for health/wellbeing, relationships, work/study, travel/relaxation, home renovations(there is always something happening at our house) & finances.

TĀ Timely - Whether you plan for the whole year or for the next 3 months, put some dates down for each goal, write them in your calendar. *Dog beach every 2nd Sunday between now and March 13

Now I love a glass of bubbly or two and toasting to the future so I reckon after planning my year out I will raise a glass and toast in the Chinese New Year on the 1st of February. Whoā€™s with me? #IvolunteerastributeĀ

2022 is the Year of the Tiger so letā€™s all be ā€œlike a tigerā€ šŸÆ

Tigers are courageous and active people who love a good challenge and adventure in life. Like their eponymous zodiac animal, people born in years of the Tiger are vigorous and ambitious, daring and courageous, enthusiastic and generous, self-confident with a sense of justice and a commitment to help others for the greater good.Ā (Year of the Tiger: Fortune and Personality ā€“ Chinese Zodiac)

So do you set goals each year? Do you have an app for that or just plain old pen to paper method? Let me know your best tip to stop procrastinating

Ā

No, really, tell me, ā€˜cause I gotta get the tax return doneā€¦.

P.S A littleĀ Aussie BronzeĀ glow will surely pep you up and have you ready to take on the world like a tiger! šŸ˜‰

PPS. Donā€™t beat yourself up - itā€™s not a competition, the whole world is dealing with crap from the pandemic so be kind to yourself and do what you can. And if that means you need to chill and do nothing then thatā€™s ok too. Try again tomorrow šŸ’›
